PLEASE HELP WILLI
5-01-08
UPDATE: $500.00 has been raised for Willi so far, but
he still needs our help. He desperately needs this surgery as he
already has a hole in the roof of his mouth where the teeth are
pushing through. Please help with any amount that you can.
Thanks!
Willi
is a 7-mo.-old mixed breed who was
found him in the back of an SUV in Syracuse, NY,
last
November. At 10-12 weeks old
at the time, he didn’t know why he was being kept out in the cold car.
A neighbor found him while walking past the car when the pup got up to
greet her. He had been there for several days with poop around him, and
no food or water. After knocking on doors until the owner of the SUV was
found, the neighbor requested that she surrender the pup, and she did.
Willi
was born with a deformed bottom jaw and needs dental surgery to grind down his bottom teeth. It just
never grew in proportion to the rest of his mouth. As time has gone on
and his permanent teeth have grown in, because his bottom jaw is so small,
his bottom teeth don’t match up to his top teeth, and thus, his bottom
teeth are drilling into the roof of his mouth. Eventually they will wear
holes through the upper jaw, at which time it will be extremely painful
and costly to fix.

Willi is currently being fostered by a
neighbor who has no work and may soon have no home, since her landlord (who
paid for Willi’s neuter and puppy shots)
is going to Iraq and selling the duplex. The foster mom is
struggling to survive with a greyhound and two cats of her own. She
contacted a local no-kill shelter to turn Willi in, but without his
dental surgery, the shelter said he will live in a cage and eventually
be put down.
The
vet estimate for Willi’s dental surgery is
$1,100 - $1,300, not including any extractions.
Willi
needs help asap before: 1) his
problem worsens, causing extreme pain; 2) the foster mom has to leave
her apartment; and 3) he can go to a forever home.
To donate to Willi’s cause, please e-mail
Carole at The Mosby Foundation at info@themosbyfoundation.org
and put “Willi” in the subject line.
Any amount…small or
large…will help!
THANK YOU!

BART
– MUNCIE, IN
Animal
Rescue sent out a plea for help with a male Alaskan Malamute who was
turned into a shelter in horrible shape.
He had severe demodectic mange, open sores all over his body, his
toes nails curled under, he had fleas, was loaded with roundworms and
hookworms, had a secondary skin infection and on top of all of this
tested positive for heartworm.
The most wonderful thing is that he has a wonderful temperament
and is very sweet and loving.
Bart has begun his numerous treatments and is handling everything
quite well so far. We've been told he is especially fond of Greenies!
Thank
you for your donation for Bart, our demodex mange Husky.
He had a 2nd skin scraping & we are heading in the
right direction.
While there were still lots of live mites, there were some dead
& dying mites.
He has another three-week treatment & then a 3rd
scraping.
Thank
you SO much for helping him!
Update:
He is doing so well!
His hair has almost all grown back and he has finally tested
negative for mange!
He has the sweetest personality, and he has blossomed with all of
the attention that he gets at ARF.
He deserves to be spoiled for the rest of his life!
Thank you so much for your generous donation!

It
looked like a raw piece of meat trying to stand. Palena Dorsey, founder
of Sanctuary Animal Rescue, got out of her car, opened the gate to her
yard and stood for a moment. The dog, whose breed was unrecognizable,
was so terrified she scurried under Palena’s RV and peed.

A Chain of Fools

We’ve all seen
it. A wide dirt circle measures the freedom of a filthy dog lugging around
an oversized chain. You wince as you drive by, thinking, somebody should do
something about that.
Tammy Grimes did
and the story of Doogie made national news.

The Cooler Babies
Two young girls forgot their pilgrimage to Tastee-Freez on a sweltering hot July afternoon. Instead, they answered a different call. Soft, whimpering cries drew them to a gutter beside the fast food restaurant.
It was there they found a discarded styrofoam cooler: the lid firmly shut. Sweating in the hot summer sun, the girls pried off the lid to discover six newborn puppies, their eyes not yet opened, struggling for life.

The Passionate Calling Of Dog Rescue

Sweet Rosie
Who knows where her home was? Or what put her on the streets? All The Mosby Foundation knows is that Rosie just kept going. A beagle stray found wandering aimlessly, searching for food and favoring a badly broken leg, Rosie’s luck did not get any better at the King William County pound. For six days, Rosie suffered needlessly at the hands of a vet who did not think it was necessary to splint her leg, much less give her pain medication . Fortunately, rescue volunteers found Rosie and took her out of the pound and straight to a caring veterinarian’s office.

A Love Beyond Measure
I got the call, as I do so many others, asking for help for a beloved canine companion. Each call is special but this one clutched at my heart.
Bobby Adkins’ sister-in-law, Judy, was embarrassed when she spoke to me but I assured her that she was talking to an avid animal lover. She took a deep breath and then told me about her brother in-law’s adored canine companion, Tracey. “These two are inseparable, Carole,” she said, “and I mean inseparable. They eat together, walk together, watch TV together and,” she said in a hushed voice, “even sleep together.” I had to laugh and told her I was familiar firsthand with that kind of love.

Aggie
On a hot August day in the summer of 2005, the Louisa County Animal Control Department received an unusual report. A nine month old black Lab/Corgi mix was curled up in the middle of the road next to a dog that appeared dead from being struck by a car. When Animal Control reached the scene, they discovered the young dog left behind was blind and almost entirely deaf. But despite her disabilities, she was remarkably friendly and sweet, smiling broadly whenever she was petted.
2/14/06 - Aggie now has a wonderful FOREVER HOME!

Crystal’s Gift
Update: 11-06-2006
Crystal no longer needs a loving home! She has a forever home with her foster Mom, Cheryl. Thanks Cheryl.
Vicki Walter from Virginia Tech. called us September 12th to ask for help with a very sweet 11 month old Johnson American Bulldog (at least that’s what we were told) named Crystal. Vicki explained that the owner had released her pet to Tech. saying she couldn’t take care of her any more. The dog’s immediate appearance made that abundantly clear. Crystal staggered then collapsed and was barely responsive. Her coat, or what was left of it, was patchy and extremely thin.

Spotacus--Brave and Kind
As it happens in life, even those of us who consider ourselves caring and kind towards animals, will sometimes walk by an animal in dire circumstances. We have many reasons for doing so, perhaps the animal is frightened of people and won’t let us get near. Whatever the circumstance, the decision to leave such an animal will often tug hard at our hearts.

Sammy
Came to our attention from several people who could not stand seeing him in his living environment. He's a 15 pound mix who was chained to a dog house year round. His owner did not know if he was male or female and had not touched him in 2 years! Sammy is blind in his left eye from neglect and could not lift his leg to urinate because of his matted condition. Sammy was treated for worms, ticks, fleas, had his vaccinations, was neutered and groomed. He is very much appreciated in his new loving home. |

Rocky
a 2 year old Golden Retriever from Staunton, Va. was hit by a car in Oct. 2004. He fractured his femur and the vet put in a plate and rod. On March 18, 2005, he fractured his femur again and the plate was broken. They replaced it at that time. In May, the femur was fractured again and this time both the plate and the rod were broken. So on June 6, the only alternative was amputation. The Mosby Foundation contributed toward his extensive surgery and we are happy to report that Rocky is doing great on three legs. The pain is gone and the whole family is thrilled to see how well he is doing; especially their 13 year old son and Rocky's playmate, Butterball. |

Jeb
Poor Jeb came to our attention in January from a shelter in Campbell County, VA. A chain was embedded in his neck which had to be surgically removed and then he was put on antibiotics. He should have been about 70 pounds and weighed in at 40, he tested positive for heart worm, hookworms and lice. He only had a spark of life left in his eyes. The Mosby Foundation paid for Jeb's treatment and he has recently been placed in a forever home with other dogs to play with and a 10 year old boy as a new best friend where he is steadily regaining his strength and weight. |

Rocky –
Williamsburg
,
VA
We were contacted by a friend of Rocky’s owner.
She said the dog was chained outside and appeared to be very thin
and weak. By the time this
Border Collie Mix made it to the vet, he was so severely malnourished and
anemic from a severe flea infestation that the vet advised euthanasia.
The Mosby Foundation covered the cost of the euthanasia, and
Rocky’s owner was found guilty of animal cruelty.
Ginger
–
Crozet
,
VA
Little Ginger fell off her owner’s lap and broke her right front leg.
The Mosby Foundation contributed toward the cost of surgery and she
is now happily back at home with her owner and feline friends.
Sadie –
Mt. Juliet
,
TN
An Animal Control Officer called us for assistance with this
approximately 6 year old Pit Bull. Sadie
had just given birth to a litter of puppies and needed to be treated for
her advanced heartworm disease before she could be spayed and adopted.
We paid for her heartworm treatment, and she is in foster care and
recovering nicely.
No
Name –
Rutherfordton
,
NC
We were contacted by a Husky rescuer about this lovely dog in the
Rutherford County Shelter. We
paid the vetting fee so the rescue group could transport her into foster
care, while she awaits a forever home.
Sassy
–
Waynesboro
,
VA
This little Pomeranian mix was rescued a year ago from her previous
neglectful owners who kept her chained outside.
When she became suddenly weak and wouldn’t eat, her new owner
took her to the vet. Emergency spay surgery was performed to remove her
infected uterus. The Mosby
Foundation helped to cover the cost of surgery, and we received a grateful
thank-you from her owner. She is so happy to have her back home and
healthy.

Sissy
–
Staunton
,
VA
After
Sissy’s owner took the little Jack Russell/Poodle mix to an emergency
hospital for treatment of bloody diarrhea, she found that Sissy would
require several days of hospitalization to recover from Hemorrhagic
Gastroenteritis. She contacted
us, and we agreed to fund a portion of the hospitalization cost.
